Hello!
I’m Linda Everett, executive coach, business strategist and personal power advocate. In 2002, I launched Inner Power and brought together my experience in business, the skills I’d gained in professional and personal development and over a decade of study into the psychology of performance. It was the outcome of something that began 20 years earlier…
Background and experience
My background in business began when I signed as a consultant with Jafra Cosmetics Int., a direct sales subsidiary of Gillette. I loved the product and because money was tight, it seemed like a good idea. Three months in, I wanted my own branch and to be part of the management team. Discovering I was pregnant, meant I had six months to achieve my goal. By the time my son was born, I had not one, but two branches and the beginning of a successful business.
Growing the business depended on training and developing people, so after the birth of my son, I began to train over the telephone. It proved to be highly effective, more personalised, and achieved results fast! ‘Listening’ took on new meaning, as I began to fine-tune the skills I now rely on as a coach.
Over the following nine years, my business grew into nine branches throughout the south-east and I moved through the ranks to become Area Director.
My interest in professional development drew me to Image, and I trained and became one of the founder members of The Federation of Image Consultants. Dressing for success significantly increased my clients’ results, but it soon became clear that ‘self-image’ and the way people define themselves, depends on inner confidence and self-belief. The concept of ‘inner power’ began to evolve.
The recession of the early 90’s brought a new and unexpected challenge to the heart of my family. My husband was out of work for two and a half years, following a long and successful career in architecture and the decimation of the construction industry. After years of working mainly with women, I was shocked to discover how many professional men in similar circumstances felt worthless, measuring their worth by the job they had done, rather than who they were. It seemed so wrong. Feeling disempowered only compounded their situation.
Meaning and purpose
I learnt much from this experience and many more that have shaped my understanding of the importance of mindset and the power we have to choose our response, regardless of the situation or circumstances faced. It was a truly challenging time, but it further opened my mind to what is possible with the right mindset, determination and support.
Unexpectedly, a chance encounter introduced me to coaching and suddenly, everything fell into place. It brought together the skills, business background, professional and personal development, life experience, knowledge and insight, along with my interest in psychology… and gave it meaning and purpose. I trained as a coach!
